SEMANA SANTA/ HOLY WEEK

On top of our friend Elena's apartment in the Macarena neighborhood, waiting for a procession to leave below.

Encarni and Elena

Waiting for the rain to roll in.

After the rain we made it to the street to catch a procession.

The Virgin Mary follows Jesus.

Nighttime procession.

Many of the 'penitentes' go barefoot for kilometers while leading the processions.

Mid-week: Encarni and I went to her village to see her brother and the processions there.

Encarni's brother Antonio as a 'costalero', the men who carry the figures through the streets. The back of the hat has thick padding where the men rest the float's crossbars across their shoulders and neck. It's tough stuff.

Antonio is somewhere underneath.

Tía Dolores likes Semana Santa.

Encarni took the following photos of El Rubio's images.

After the processions everyone heads to cafes to celebrate. Me with my buddy Chacho.
